Abstract
Recently, the study of the relationship between knowledge management (KM), organizational learning (OL) and the competitiveness of tourism business enterprises (TBE) has been a subject of increased scrutiny among research scholars. In order to gain an understanding of this field's research interests and scientific productivity over the years, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on a sample of 267 articles published in Web of Science (WoS) database Hospitality, Leisure, Sports and Tourism (HLST) categories from 2001 to 2022. The results showed that most articles originated from Spain, Australia and the United States. 2019 had the most published articles and 2008 had the most citations. The International Journal of Hospitality Management was found to be the leading source for these cited articles. Co-word analysis used to map out theoretical structure showed that 'management', 'performance', 'innovation' and 'knowledge management' were common keywords in documents. It was also observed that 44 authors worked independently while 2.67 authors worked collaboratively on each article on average which implies international collaboration in this field with somewhat limited collaboration with African countries. Most documents are primary research unlike reviews, hence suggesting potential new studies or review old ones. This study is beneficial for exploration into future research areas in tourism management by identifying trends in KM, OL and TBE competitiveness in tourism business management discipline over time while recognizing that further research is needed to explore key areas such as resources, firm performance, quality, mediating and moderating roles, knowledge/learning & capability roles impacting competitiveness of TBEs as well as innovation & performance indicator roles in tourism business enterprises.
